North South Line (NSL)
The North South Line (NSL) is the first MRT line in Singapore, connecting the northern and southern regions through Central Singapore. It is operated by SMRT Trains and covers a distance of 44km with 27 stations from Jurong East (NS1) in the West to Marina South Pier (NS28) in the South, via Woodlands (NS9) in the North. The line runs on elevated viaducts for over half of its length and goes underground in the Central Area and other short sections of its route.
Train stations are a critical indicator of accessibility in Singapore's property market. The closer a location is to a major train line (e.g. East-West line), the higher accessibility it attains. Because convenience and connectivity is highly valued in Singapore, train station have a strong positive correlation to property prices. However, it is important to note that while accessibility is a big price determinant, there are a myriad of other factors that affect property prices, including density, schools, safety, neighborhood maturity, etc.
